No jackpot for winner
VICTORIA – The BC Lottery Corporation is under more fire – this time from a jackpot winner. A Victoria man is looking for the lottery corporation to pay him more than 000 that he says he won at a casino in Duncan earlier this year. But the man says the BCLC won’t pay up because he agreed not to play in BC casinos. His lawyer is not impressed, “It seems unconscionable to allow someone that has gambling issues to let them play” says Josh Weiszner “to watch them put their monies into a machine and them disallow them when they win.” Weiszner says he wants the BC Lottery Corporation to play fair and he’s critical of the government for not doing enough to help problem gamblers. “If the BC Lottery Corporation is going to give the impression to people who need assistance that they’re there to help they should follow through with it”, says Weiszner. The lawyer isn’t letting his client, Mike Lee, talk to reporters at moment, but he says that his client walked into the Cowichan Chances Casino on January 25th. Lee played slot machines and was up about three hundred dollars when he hit the jackpot; 000. His lawyer says he was elated to win and went to cash out. It was at that point Lee was denied his winnings and asked to leave. Mike Lee acknowledges at the time he won that jackpot he had signed a form where he voluntarily agreed that he wouldn’t go into any casino in British Columbia. Lee’s lawyer says nowhere in this agreement did it say that if he won money the BC Lottery …
